WHY THIS MATTERS

Canadian nonprofits are at a financial systems inflection point

Reporting complexity, growing funder accountability demands, and operational scale have outpaced the tools most mid-market nonprofits rely on. The systems that got you here won't get you where you need to go.

Your organization must be a registered nonprofit or charitable organization operating in Canada, across any province or territory.

Currently on Entry-Level Systems

Organizations currently operating on QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, Sage 50, Adagio, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or comparably limited accounting platforms that are no longer able to meet your reporting demands.

Dealing with Multi-Entity or Grant Complexity

You manage multiple programs, entities, or funding sources that require consolidated reporting, grant tracking, and audit-ready fund accounting.

Not a Current Sage Intacct Customer

Your organization must not be a current Sage Intacct customer at the time of application.

SELECTION CRITERIA

How applications are evaluated

Applications are reviewed and scored by Cantatus. Only applicants who have completed the Digital Transformation Audit will advance to panel evaluation. The top applicants are evaluated by an independent panel of 3 to 5 business and nonprofit leaders, jointly recruited by Sage Canada and Cantatus but independent of both organizations. The panel uses a published weighted rubric. The winner is the organization where financial system modernization will generate the greatest measurable impact across three dimensions:

Organizational Impact

Internal operations & financial infrastructure

How significantly will ERP modernization reduce manual processes, improve financial reporting accuracy, support multi-entity consolidation, and enable real-time financial decision-making for leadership?

40%

of total score

Community & Beneficiary Impact

Mission reach & service delivery

How will improved financial infrastructure amplify your organization's ability to serve communities? Consider funder accountability, expanded program delivery, and potential sector replicability.

Financial Sustainability Impact

Long-term fiscal health & resilience

How will modernization strengthen your long-term fiscal resilience? Evaluators consider audit readiness, CRA compliance capacity, cost efficiency over a three-year horizon, and board alignment.

WHAT IS SAGE INTACCT?

The Platform Behind the Grant

Sage Intacct is a cloud-based financial management platform engineered for the complexity that nonprofits actually face, fund accounting, multi-entity consolidation, grant compliance tracking, and real-time reporting for boards and leadership. Every single hour your finance team spends on manual reconciliation is an hour not being spent on mission delivery. Sage Intacct eliminates that trade-off. Preferred by the AICPA, trusted by thousands of nonprofits, and the 2025 TrustRadius Buyers Choice Award winner.

Fund Accounting Built In

Restricted and unrestricted funds are tracked separately with no risk of co-mingling. When a funder requests a report on how their dollars were spent, your team can produce it in minutes,

not days.

Real-Time Board Visibility

Replace the quarterly spreadsheet-assembled PDF with live, role-based dashboards. Leadership sees program spend versus budget in real time. Boards arrive to every meeting informed.

Multi-Entity Consolidation

Manage multiple programs, departments, or legal entities independently, while generating consolidated financials automatically. No manual consolidation. No month-end marathons.

Audit-Ready by Design

Every transaction carries a complete, tamper-evident trail,  who approved it, against which fund, with what documentation. Year-end and funder reporting become a fraction of the effort they currently require.

The most common barrier to ERP adoption is not awareness — it is capital. That is precisely the gap this grant is designed to close.
